In Wisconsin, we like to joke about the seasons: winter, spring, fall and construction seasons, but we need to add another season to the mix, at least in this area – FESTIVAL season.
Festival season got off to a great start with the Wings of Hope event at Firemen’s Park in Cedarburg last Saturday. Wings of Hope is a fundraiser for the Love 4 Lexi Foundation, which offers grants or assistance to families of children with gastrointestinal dysfunction who demonstrate a financial need, and supports gastrointestinal research at major medical institutions. Check out more about their great work and help them out on their website: http://l4lfoundation.org/ (Yes, a shameless plug.)
The season continues this Friday evening at Cedar Creek Park with the first of the Summer Sounds free music concerts. For the next ten Friday evenings, Summer Sounds will feature a different band, mixing styles and sounds, but always offering a great time. Things are even better this year – the Summer Sounds booth will be selling wine by the glass and bottle – wines that we carry in the store at Grapes and Tastes. Show your support for Summer Sounds by pounding lots and lots of wine (another shameless plug). You can also stop by our booth at Summer Sounds and pick up a cheese, sausage and cracker combo to enjoy with your wine (and another shameless plug). The full Summer Sounds concert schedule is available here: http://www.summersounds.net.
The madness continues in Cedarburg with this year’s Strawberry Festival on Saturday and Sunday. If you have never been to Strawberry Fest, or haven’t gone lately, you really should check it out. There’s a lot of great art, food, music, beverages and more. Plus, we’ll be there with a Grapes and Tastes booth (one more shameless plug), so stop and say hello (and buy something!).
Grapes and Tastes will also have a wine booth at Ozaukee County Fair, but more on that at another time (look, no plug!).
In wine news, Erik from Left Bank will be here Friday evening tasting out a couple of surprises. Many of you will remember Erik from his time working at Grapes and Tastes. If you can, stop in and give him a hard time!
And, watch for more info on our Bastille Days tasting. We’ll be getting our order of new white, red and rose’ Bordeaux wines in the next couple weeks and will be doing a tasting of many of them. This will be a great chance to try some great newly released wines.
By the way, the correct answer to our last trivia question was New Zealand, which has the world’s southernmost WINE region. It really wasn’t a trick question. Congrats to the few who got the correct answer.
Cheers!
