New Wines, Special Events and Guess the Grapes Trivia! New Wines, Special Events and Guess the Grapes Trivia!

is both a wine shop and a tasting bar. With over 300 hand selected unique wines, we cover a range of flavor profiles, appellations, and price points. Catering to the newly discovered palette as much as the experienced connoisseur. We integrate all wine enthusiasts.

We encourage people to try things, and always have wines out for free samplings. This not only gives you the opportunity to try something new, but it gives us clues as to what you will like so we can make informed recommendations. Even our daily discounts are set up to encourage people to try new wines.

At Grapes and Tastes, we are also continually adding new wines as we get interest and suggestions from YOU, our customers. Additionally, we also do a lot of special requests and love hunting down hard-to-find wines. Just ask!

In our tasting bar area, sample daily wine selections; get wines by the glass, bottle, or flight while enjoying some of our packaged foods along with the wines (or crafted beers) of your choice.

We hold an anytime wine tasting of 4 wines and light food for $5 on with a new topic/geography each week. No reservations needed.

A couple times a month we also hold larger tasting events with more wines and selected food and sometimes entertainment, for about $10-15. For full details, check out our schedule on the Calendar & Events Page.

Wine groups, book clubs, networkers, non-profits, and others: Hold your meetings and fundraisers here! Where you can enjoy some of our gourmet foods with wines (or crafted beers) of choice. Featuring only the best assortments of cheeses, meats, seafoods, snacks, chocolates, and more on hand. Whatever your group prefers, we can accommodate.

Stop in soon to see us, check out our selection, and have a glass! And, be sure to subscribe to our updates and announcements:

All’s Fair in Wine

Hello,

Just a quick note this week to mention that Grapes and Tastes will have a wine booth at the Ozaukee County Fair in Cedarburg this week and weekend. The Oz County Fair is one of the few remaining fairs in the Midwest that are still free, so be sure to check it out. For more info go here: www.ozaukeecountyfair.com

For those of you who do attend the fair, stop by our booth near the main gate for a glass on us. Say hello and mention this post to get a BUY ONE GET ONE glass of wine.*

If you stop in at the store on Friday night, you can say hello to Erik. He will be on hand to taste out a few Left Bank wine selections. Enjoy some wine and catch up with Erik!

Cheers!

* One BOGO per email address/account, thanks.

New Grapes

One great thing about wine is that it’s never the same. Wines are always different, from vintage to vintage, or even glass to glass after opening a bottle. And, the best thing about that, at least to us, is how one’s preferences can evolve and enjoyment of new flavors can grow.

That’s why we like to keep our selections fresh. There are certainly some standards in our assortment of wines that should be there every day because they consistently deliver, however, it’s a lot of fun on our part to bring in new wines on a weekly basis and share them with our customers. Turning someone on to a new winemaker, new varietal or new blend is at the heart of our business. It’s not just about the grapes, it’s the tasting process and finding something you’ve never had before.

So check out some of the wines we’ve added in recent weeks:

  • Airlie Pinot Noir, Willamette Valley, Oregon
  • Aletta Garnacha, Spain
  • Arrogant Frog Pinot Noir, France
  • Baglio di Pianetto Ramione, Italy
  • Caldora Sangiovese, Italy
  • Casa Silva Syrah/Carmenere Rose, Chile
  • Cote Est Lafage Grenache Blanc/Chardonnay, France
  • Delta Pinot Noir, New Zealand
  • Elevation Merlot, Central Coast, California
  • JFJ Brut Sparkling, California
  • Mosen Cleto Garnacha/Tempranillo
  • Pennywise Petite Sirah, California
  • Red Belly Black Shiraz, South Australia
  • Sacred Stone Master Red Blend, California
  • Uvaggio Vermentino, California
  • Vega Sindoa Garnacha Rose, Spain
  • Wildhurst Cabernet Sauvignon, Lake County, California
  • And, this is only a partial list of new stuff!

Stop in during the rest of July and mention this email and receive our 12 bottle discount on any of these wines, even if you purchase only one bottle.* (But we hope you’ll take a case!)

Also check out our new artisan cheeses (great with most wines), GoVino wine glasses (great for patios, picnics and boats) and Woozies (great for keeping wine cold in the glass)

    Cheers!

    * Sorry, no further discounts apply to this list.

Get a Real Taste of Bordeaux

At Grapes and Tastes we like to point out that we have over 300 wines, with most of them being ‘smaller’ names so we can offer a wide assortment of flavor profiles and appellations, at price points we are comfortable with. We then offer tastes of many of our wines so you can become familiar with them before buying. We believe that this approach has led to our better-than-expected success so far.

We mention this to point out that when we hold a wine tasting, we like to make it a real TASTING. You get a nice pour of wine, rather than just a few drops to evaluate as you stand in line for the next wine. You can even come back for a second taste if you like. We want you to really have fun learning about our featured wines!

And, we mention this because our Bordeaux Wine Tasting is this Saturday, July 17, from 3-5 p.m. We will be offering for tasting six great Bordeaux wines, giving you a real opportunity to experience the famous French region’s productions. And, try the new cheeses we’ve just added, or the delicious antipasto made right here in Cedarburg by a local resident. All this for just $5! être présent ou être de forme carrée! (Guess what this means and get FREE chocolate with your tasting, too!)

    Cheers!

    Daily Delights

Hope everyone had great 4th of July and enjoyed the break from the daily grind! (Except for those who had to work on the 4th, of course!)

For this week’s post we thought we’d mention that not only do we always have a number of great wines out for tasting on a daily basis, but if you choose to have a glass of any of those wines, you can do so for only $5.00. That means WHATEVER we have out for tasting is $5.00 for a glass whether it’s a big California Cab or an Oregon Pinot Noir. So check out the Daily Delights next time you stop in to stock up. AND – this week’s Daily Delights will include our favorite Sangria with fresh fruit. Enjoy a glass while shopping or chilling to beat the heat.

Also worth noting is our Bordeaux Wine Tasting on Saturday, July 17. From 3-5 p.m. we’ll have some newly released whites, rose’s and reds not found around here available for tasting. Try them all. Try them all twice if you like. Just $5.00 (or just 5.23 francs, for you Francophiles!), which includes some new crafted cheeses that we brought in just for this tasting.

    Cheers, or Viva la France!

    What’s in a Name?

We came across this interesting wine website recently, and wanted to share a short article with you. It’s about the syrah/shiraz grape. For those of you who were unaware, syrah and shiraz are the same grape, but named differently in different regions. They are also made in different styles, as noted here:

    -click for article-

For a great example of each, try our Estrada Creek California Syrah and Climbing Australian Shiraz. Same grape, very different flavor profiles.

FREE tickets to Gathering on the Green! Be the first to buy both a syrah and shiraz (any vineyard), and receive two free tickets to Gathering on the Green ‘It’s So Easy Being Green’ on July 10. GOTG is a great event, set in scenic Mequon Rotary Park. For more info about the event, go here: http://www.gatheringonthegreen.org

Make a note for Saturday, July 17, from 3-5 p.m. We’ll be getting our shipment of pre-ordered Bordeaux wines and will hold a Bastille Days Tasting . These are new releases from Bordeaux, not available elsewhere in the area, and priced very reasonably. If you enjoy Brodeaux whites, rose’s and reds, you won’t want to miss this. If you don’t know much about Bordeaux wines, here’s a chance to see what the fuss is all about. Only $5 for several wines and (our new line of) cheese and crackers.

    Cheers!
